We are commencing the construction of our third and largest anti-predator fence for birds.
The protected area is to cover more than 60 hectares and is located near the village of Trześcianka, in the Narew River valley.
A special system of electrified cables is designed to protect waders and other species, including the ducks that nest there – this year, pintails began breeding here.
We already have recycled plastic stakes prepared to replace the old wooden ones – many of which have already rotten away.
At the moment we are leveling the area for the fence, filling in the depressions so that our new fence holds level. This is very important, especially when the river floods in the spring; the wires will be positioned a few centimeters above the water.
There are still animals in the meadows, but only until 31 October. According to regulations, Polish Koniks can remain on the pastures throughout the year, while cows are to be taken to back to cowsheds. Koniks will stay in Trześcianka until early December, as later it gets too wet, and the grass does not grow.
