Monitoring breeding success near Trześcianka in Podlasie
We have the first results concerning the monitoring of bird breeding success in the area of the plot located near Trzesanka / Podlasie in the Upper Narew Valley.
61 nests were found over about 60 acres of grazed grassland, of which:
- 51 belonged to Lapwings
- 10 to common Redshanks.
The chicks hatched in only 8 nests. There were losses in others, caused by birds – during monitoring, contractors observed a raven robbing the nests – as well as mammals: there were tracks found indicating a fox.
Of the other species, 3 nests of pintails and 1 of Garganeys were also interesting – breeding failed in all of them. This area is not protected by an anti-predator fence. Because of that, we are proceeding with the construction of an electric fence at the site this year. We will continue with grazing.
These data are preliminary, we will have more information after reading and analyzing the temperature logger records.
The monitoring was carried out by our indispensable colleagues from TowarzystwoPrzyrodniczeDubelt (Dubelt Nature Society).
