During the grazing season, which lasts from May 15 to October 15 for cows, we have to make shifts in the quarters, move individuals, swap herds, release quarters, etc. Animals are moved or transported during such operations. The most difficult thing is to choose the right pieces, for example: females with young ones stay – only heifers go, or vice versa: females with young ones go – and the heifers stay.
At the moment, more than 70 Polish koniks and about 170 Polish Red cows are grazing on the plots near the village of Trześcianka, in the upper Narew River valley on the meadows owned by the PTOP. The animals belong to cooperating farmers.
All herds are mixed: among the koniks, there is one adult stallion, bulls accompany the various herds of cows.
