Horse handling training.
Last weekend we hosted a group of volunteers at our station in Kalitnik/Podlasie.
The purpose of the meeting was training in handling our stubborn animals.
Some of the volunteers are first-timers and are just getting to know the animals' psyche, learning to recognize their body language and read warning signals. Sometimes the horses get into clashes with each other and want to kick or bite another animal and, by accident, a person can be caught in a “line of fire”. Under the guidance of trainers, workshop participants practiced leading a horse on a tether, turning and reversing the animals so that they line up in the right way, hoof lifting. Also, we desensitized the horses so that they would not be afraid of new objects. One crucial aspect of training is teaching horses to confidently enter the trailer, even though it can be a source of fear for them. It is vital for us that horses become skilled at loading into the trailer efficiently, as this enables smooth transportation to the meadows. It was a very busy weekend for both horses and people. The amount of knowledge was overwhelming at times.
We work with horses using natural methods, taking advantage of the natural predispositions of these animals and their character.
