Electric fence near Gródek
In mid-March, we activated the electric fence on a 30-hectare plot near Gródek (Podlasie)
with the aim of safeguarding the breeding grounds against ground predators. In the previous season, we had over 100 breeding pairs of Charadriiformes on this plot.
While examining the fence for any damage and repairing broken wires, the enchanting songs of skylarks filled the air, and flocks of lapwings and geese flew overhead. We also could hear the first redshank,
and the resonant calls of cranes in the distance. A pair of mute swans has taken up residence on the plot, as we have several flooded areas utilized also by ducks. Last year, we spotted a pair of common shelducks during their migration in this spot.
The first lapwings have already claimed territories on the plot and are making mating flights in pairs.
