Our koniks have already returned to the base in Kalitnik.
On Friday, November 18, we loaded 46 animals onto a trailer and after a 20-minute drive, all of them, one by one, made their way from the pasture in Gródek to their old “home” in Kalitnik.
Gródek is our most valuable wader area, where every year we observe several hundred breeding pairs of i.a. black-tailed godwits, redshanks, lapwings, single ruffs and great snipes. Grazing in the area lasts from late July to November.
In the past, we have had situations where the horse did not want to get on the trailer and everything was prolonged. Now the animals are so tame and accustomed that loading each herd took 10 to 15 minutes. In total, we covered the route in 6 sweeps, carrying 8-7 horses each time. We managed to finish at dusk.
Horses have their own arrangements and you need to respect that, their friendships and animosities, you need to choose one which will get on first/and the rest will follow him, colleagues travel together, someone they do not like stays and waits for the second transport (or capers in the back of the truck and then you need to go quickly.
Now the entire herd is being dewormed and moved to winter pastures – which volunteers are helping with.
