New project

3wrzesnia1We are starting a new project to shape and protect habitat for waders. We waited a long 8 months for the contest results!
The project will be implemented in two Natura 2000 areas in Podlasie: the Upper Narew Valley (near the village of Trześcianka) and the Knyszyn Primeval Forest (near Gródek). These are the areas we often write about on our profile; we have been grazing Polish ponies and red cows here for almost 10 years.

Under the new project, we will expand the areas protected by antipredator fencing to over 80 hectares (currently 30 hectares).
A very important and difficult task is the construction of: a dozen or so dams, ponds and almost 4 km of dykes, so that shallow pools are maintained on these plots throughout the entire breeding season.

Our goal is to achieve a birth rate of 0.6 young per breeding pair, thus establishing strong local populations of black-tailed godwit, redshank, common snipe and lapwing.
Other protected species that will benefit from the project include: fire-bellied toad, crested newt, ruff, montagu's harrier, white stork, and lesser spotted eagle.
